Why Real Estate Agents Deserve Your Trust and Respect
If you’re under the impression that becoming a real estate agent is an easy way to make money or a cop-out from a real career, you're mistaken.
Acquiring the necessary education, attaining practical experience, memorizing the national and jurisdictional laws, and finally getting the license is a grueling process. It takes years to perfect their knowledge of the local market, become familiar with the popular trends, understanding what works and what doesn’t.
However, in return, they don’t get the kind of trust and respect they deserve. Real estate brokerage is a serious line of work that demands time, commitment, and money.
Here are some things that you probably didn’t know about becoming a real estate agent.
It Costs Money
Establishing your real estate brokerage firm is not a ticket to earn free money, neither is it a cheap startup. It demands money to pay for the courses, state exams, joining the local and national boards, the fee for omission and error insurance, access to your lockbox, and miscellaneous listing services.
It’s only when all these hidden costs and fees start adding up that you see your risk increasing. Real estate agents are always threatened by doubts like what if I fail or don't get enough business. But it's their commitment to their career that takes them all the way through.
Pre-Licensing Class Curriculum Contributes Only a Little
Novices who are just out of a pre-licensing class think they have all there’s to know about this business on their fingertips. The real learning begins once you start taking clients and handling real cases. Academic tutoring only exposes you to the legalities in this business; the tricks of communicating with clients, understanding their requirements, and handling complications that may arise are all an acquired skill.
Once you get a client, it’s a matter of luck and instinct how you take that case further. Since you’re learning by trial and error, you might lose money and business at times. And nobody shares the financial losses with you.
It Requires Time
You can't become a millionaire overnight. Becoming good at this job requires time and patience. It can be years until you build a reputation and credibility in the target market. And like all other businesses, some highs and lows make the path completely unpredictable. Only once you learn how to plan and take every failure in a stride do you prepare for more significant successes.
So before casting a real estate agent away because you don’t feel like they’re right for the job, consider all they did to get this job!
